Spain and Portugal march on

  • Spain earn hard-fought win over Thailand
  • Portugal turn on the style against Dominican Republic
  • POR 14-0 DOM⎪THA 2-6 ESP

**THE DAY REPLAYED â€" **Day three at the Women's Youth Olympic Futsal Tournament Buenos Aires 2018 brought victories for favourites **Spain **and **Portugal **against opponents of **differing calibres**.

Portugal took longer than anticipated to break the deadlock against Dominican Republic in the first match of the day, but once the floodgates opened the gulf in quality became clearly apparent.

Once again *Carolina Rocha *(four goals) and *Helena Gomez *(three goals) stood out, although three other players also hit braces.

Portugal only allowed their opponents two shots on goal in the entire game en ro ute to keeping a clean sheet.

The subsequent encounter between Spain and Thailand was much more evenly balanced, although the Europeans paved the way for the victory in the first half thanks to their blistering attack.* *

The Spaniards needed to call upon their full range of **technical and tactical expertise **to first break down a well-drilled opposition defence before surviving a second-half onslaught to stay on course to win the group.

  • Bolivia were not in action but the team still watched both the day's matches, keeping a particularly close eye on next opponents Thailand.
  • Portugal have the most potent attack at the tournament so far with 29 goals, followed by Thailand (16) and Spain (15).
