Report: USWNT play road friendlies in Portugal, Scotland
After capturing the 2018 CONCACAF Womenâs Championship and qualifying for the 2019 Womenâs World Cup, the United States Womenâs National Team is taking their act on the road. According to the Washington Postâs Steven Goff, the USWNT are scheduled to travel to Europe to face Portugal on November 8th. They then take on Scotland on November 13th.
Details werenât immediately available on where the matches will take place. Scotland surprisingly qualified for next summerâs Womenâs World Cup in France by winning their group in UEFA Womenâs World Cup qualification. Portugal failed to qualify for the tournament after finishing 3rd in their group behind Italy and Belgium.
This will be the first away match for the USWNT since they traveled to Vancouver for a match against Canada last November. That match ended in a 1-1 draw. For the USWNT, itâs a chance to compete against two European teams that could help them as they begin preparations to defend their Womenâs World Cup title. Road tests will be crucial experience for the team, and in an upstart Scotland, they face a team that they could see next June in France.
