Rail workers strike brings trains to almost complete standstill

According to the union, only the minimum service trains circulated, but train company CP - Comboios de Portugal, providing an update at 8 am which said 100 connections were made, 93 of which were covered by the minimum service requirement.

In all, 252 trains were planned, which means that only about 40% of journeys were completed.

Workers at ticket offices and inspectors at CP - Comboios de Portugal are on strike Monday demanding hiring of more workers, more trains and negotiation of the collective bargaining agreement.

The strike was called by the Railway Trade Ins pectors Union (SFRCI), which criticised the Ministry of Finance for "blocking the agreements between the Ministry of Planning, CP and the SFRCI," saying that 88 workers are being hired for the CP commercial service (inspectors and ticket office workers)."
