CRISTIANO RONALDO was chilling out in the sun while Portugal prepared for their Uefa Nations League opener against Italy.

After missing most of pre-season and leaving Real Madrid to join Juventus, Ronaldo opted out of international duty to top up his fitness - and his tan.

The 33-year-old was pictured relaxing on a luxurious boat while on holiday in the Mediterranean with his partner Georgina Rodriguez and son Cristiano Jr.

Ronaldo trained with the Serie A champions this week, but with so many team-mates away on international duty, Juve boss Max Allegri gave the rest of the squad a few days off.

The forward posted a picture of h imself topless soaking up the sun on his Instagram account while his partner Rodriguez shared a snap of them on a small boat with his son Cristiano Jr.

While the Portuguese legend was kicking back on holiday, his international team-mates were put through their paces at the Stadium of Light in Lisbon.

Boss Fernando Santos is preparing his side for Monday evening's clash against the Italians as they as they look to get back to winning ways after drawing with Croatia in a friendly earlier this week.

Everything revolves around Ronaldo as far as Portugal are concerned, but Santos has no problem with his man not featuring for the European champions.

He said: “After talking to the player, and after he moved to Juventus with all the processes of adaptation that entails, we understand it was best for him to not be present for these games.”

Juve face Sassuolo next Sunday and Ronaldo will be looking to break his mini goal-scoring drought for his new club.
