HUDSON â€" State Rep. Kate Hogan, D-Stow, presented the Heritage Day of Portugal award to Lizett G. Frias, of Hudson, during a recent ceremony at the Statehouse.

Heritage Day is hosted annually by the Portuguese-American Legislative Caucus; legislators are invited to nominate a constituent who has made a lasting contribution to their local Portuguese community. This year, the 34th Heritage Day of Portugal was marked by a state visit by Marcelo Nuno Duarte Rebelo de Sousa, president of the Portuguese Republic.

Lizett G. Frias, is a first-generation Portuguese-American, daughter of Antonio Frias (Santa Maria, Azores) and Maria Manuela Frias (Sao Miquel, Azores) and an integral member of the Hudson Portuguese community. Lizett Frias is a dedicated member of the Hudson Portuguese Club; over the years, she has contributed to the club by volunteering, serving on boards, and spearheading various programs and events. She is the founder and serves as chairperson of the S&F Annual Golf Classic benefiting the Hudson Portuguese Club, which has grown to be the largest source of support for the club after 11 years.

Frias and the other nominees were presented their awards in the Massachusetts House of Representatives’ chamber and enjoyed celebratory refreshments with friends and family in the Hall of Flags. Frias was joined by her daughters Nicole and Stephanie, and her fiancé, Robert Valchuis.
